Surveys show that engagement in school decreases as students get older. It’s also the case that while most families would like their children to pursue higher education, fewer than half of high school graduates actually earn a college degree.
One factor is negative peer pressure, says one expert. Kids may think that studying isn't cool, and neither is being interested in sports and after-school activities. Many kids think they can slide by in school, yet still go to college or earn a high-income job right after high school.
Families and schools must work together to counteract negative peer pressure with "steer pressure." To steer your student toward post-secondary education:
