Nothing supports your child like positive family time. Keep these four R's in mind to make your family time stress-free and enjoyable:

Routines. Children need to know what's coming next. Unpredictability makes them feel unprotected. Develop basic routines that help your child move through the day. As routines become habits, kids are calmer and things run more smoothly.
Rules. Families are not democracies. Adults get to decide when kids go to bed. Children may grumble, but they're really relieved. Once they know where the boundaries are, they have more freedom to explore in the safe area inside those boundaries.
Responsibilities. Give your child age-appropriate responsibility for contributing to the well-being of your family. Fulfilling responsibilities helps children feel capable.
Rituals. Every family should have traditions that are their own. Beyond holiday traditions, plan some smaller celebrations. Try a First Friday Pizza night. In the summer, have a Hot Day Chill Out and read books about winter, snow and ice.
