Talking with your child about school shows that you care about two important things: what goes on in your child's life and education.
Each day, ask your child to show you at least one example of completed schoolwork. One day, it might be a test. Another day, it might be a regular class assignment. Talk together about the progress your child is making. Praise effort as well as results. Encourage your child to work hard and to keep trying if something is challenging.
Making this a regular habit will help both you and your child. It will let you know more about what's going on in school and what your child is learning. And it will make it clear that you think your child's education is important.
