Positive Messages Foster Persistence

Praising students' work can make them feel capable and encourage them working when things aren’t going well. But when your teen is struggling with a subject, it can be hard to find something nice to say.

Kids always know if you're not being authentic. So, if you are looking for something to praise when your teen is having difficulty, try to focus on things your student has done right—even if answers are incorrect. You might use a phrase like, "That was a good try," or "The assignment is tough, but you've done other tough assignments and I know you can do this one."
