Four Strategies Add Up to Success With Math

Most students can improve in math if they work hard. Share these four strategies for math success with your student:

  1. Ask questions. Most teens are hesitant to ask questions in class. Explain that if your teen has a question, there are probably others who are wondering the same thing.
  2. Stay up-to-date. Math builds on what was learned before. Remind your teen to do assignments or study every day, even if the class doesn’t meet daily.
  3. Get a study buddy. Suggest your teen ask a classmate to be a math study partner. They can talk through problem-solving strategies together.
  4. Read ahead. If the teacher is going to talk about chapter four tomorrow, your teen should read it tonight, and try to solve some problems in the textbook. If something is confusing, your teen will have an idea about what to concentrate on or ask about in class the next day.
