Playing Reporter Teaches Writing Skills

Here's a great way to have fun and help your child practice writing skills, too. Pretend you are reporters hunting up a feature story for your local newspaper.

Armed with note pads, pens, a camera and your imaginations, set out to observe people making the news. There are many places that can provide interesting things to write about: a shopping center, the park, even your front yard.

After finding your story, write it up together. Include pictures, headlines and a byline. When your final draft is finished, put it in a scrapbook of your child’s work to treasure for days to come.
