Safe Biking Is No Accident

Exercise is essential to keeping your child healthy and fit to learn. But it is important that he learn to exercise safely. According to one study, an average of 25 children every hour are treated in emergency rooms for injuries suffered when they fall from their bikes. Many of these injuries can be prevented.

Teach your child about bike safety and the rules of the road. Supervise when your child rides. Until kids reach age 10, they should not ride bikes in the street. Older kids should always ride on the right side of the road.

To protect against head injuries, your child should always wear a properly-fitted helmet when riding a bike (and be sure to wear one yourself). Bicycle helmets can reduce or prevent serious injury.
