Solving Sample Problems Reinforces Concepts

Suppose your teen is studying math. Before she starts her solving her homework problems, have her copy a sample problem from her textbook, or one that the teacher solved in class, onto a fresh sheet of paper, then close her book and put away her notes.

Can she solve the problem by herself? Maybe not. And believe it or not, that’s not bad news. Because now your teen needs to work through the sample problem again. She may need to check her notes or read the book. But she’ll learn what steps to follow and why. And she’ll be prepared to do her homework.
