Observe Martin Luther King Day as a Family

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Suggest that your teen mark the day by doing some research into why King is such an important figure in civil rights history.

Have your teen:

• Look up facts about Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life. Where was he born? What jobs did he have? How did all of those facts contribute to his beliefs?
• Research the work King did. What causes did he support? What did he believe in?
• Read King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Your teen will be able to find the text online or in a book at the library.

Together, talk about what King dreamed of, and what we can all do to help make sure that King's dream is fulfilled.
