Helping the School Has Big Benefits
Volunteers work for free, but not for nothing, say parents who have given time to help the school. Here are four important reasons for you to get involved in school activities:
- You'll learn what's going on. Your child probably doesn't tell you everything you want to know. Volunteering will give you a new perspective.
- You'll develop skills. You might manage projects, edit publications, raise money or update a website. Request duties you'll like and learn from.
- You'll have things to talk about with your child. Even if your student doesn't tell you much about school, you'll know enough to ask good questions.
- You'll help many children do better in school. Your focus may be on your child. But it doesn't take long to see that when you volunteer to help the school, you make a difference for lots of students.
Not all volunteer projects have to be done at school. Ask your child's teacher about things you can help with from home, too.
