Create Recordings to Bring History to Life

History is much more than a collection of facts. It is the story of people and events. If your child is learning about a particular historical period, here's an idea that can make history come alive.

Help your child use a phone or recorder to record a "news broadcast" exactly as it might have happened in the historical period she’s studying. Have her pretend to be the newscaster reporting on the event. Encourage her to add sound effects to make the story more exciting. She might even try creating “personal interviews” with “eyewitnesses” to the event—for example, the people who heard Paul Revere shout as he rode by.
