Writing Directions Can Improve Thinking Skills

How do you make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? What are the steps you follow when you're signing on to play a favorite computer game?

Asking your child to write directions for doing a task is a good way to encourage clear thinking. Choose a familiar activity your child knows how to do. Then have your child write down the steps to do it.

Next, read the directions back and have your child follow them exactly. Did they work? If your child forgot a step, ask for corrected directions. Then try again.
