Is Your Child Struggling in School?
Don't wait for a report card to come home to find out how your child is doing in school. Children who are struggling need help right away.
Be aware of these changes in behavior that may signal difficulties:
- Your child suddenly doesn't want to go to school. It may just be a problem with a friend. It may be a conflict with a teacher. But it's always worth checking into.
- Your child suddenly wants to spend a lot more time watching screens than usual. Children who have difficulty at school may want to escape into the digital world when they get home.
- Your child starts to complain about things that make it hard to learn. When children realize they're overwhelmed or in trouble, they often start to look for something or someone else to blame.
- Your child starts saying things like, "I knew I'd never be good in school." This is a defense system children set up so failure doesn't hurt. If you hear these comments, ask why your child feels that way.
If you see any of these signs, be sure to talk to your child's teacher and counselor as soon as possible.
