Here’s a fun way to encourage your child to learn more about a book character or historical figure: "Invite" that person to come to dinner. One night, encourage everyone in the family to come to dinner as a character. They may even want to wear costumes. During the dinner, each person should speak and answer questions as the character he or she is portraying.
The first task will be for everyone to figure out who has come to the dinner table. That will involve asking lots of questions. Imagine what conversations may develop when Ponce de Leon sits down next to Paddington, while Fancy Nancy sits across the table from Susan B. Anthony!
