Try Learning for Fun
Learning isn't just for school hours. It can happen anytime and anywhere! Here are some fun activities that can help your child learn things without even realizing it:
- Experiment with bubbles. Mix eight tablespoons of dishwashing liquid with a quart of water. Pour the liquid into a shallow pan. Then, blow through a straw to create bubbles. Have your child touch the bubbles with a dry finger. What happens? Have your child touch the bubbles again with a wet finger. What happens this time?
- Stage a costume drama. Keep a box of old hats, large squares of cloth and other items that can be made into costumes. When boredom strikes, ask your child to choose a character from history. Then, have your child write and/or perform a play about one event in that character's life.
- Make a 3-D map of your neighborhood. Collect empty boxes, milk cartons and other containers. Encourage your child to use these items to create a three-dimensional map of the area where you live.
