Consider an End-of-the-Year Conference

Whether your child has had a successful school year, or one that's not so wonderful, an end-of-the-year parent-teacher conference can help you learn some important things. When you talk with the teacher, you can find out more about your child's strengths and weaknesses. The teacher can also help you plan for the summer and for your child's education in years to come.

Contact the teacher to arrange a time to talk. During your conference, ask:

Has my child made the progress you expected this year? What can you show me that demonstrates how much my child has learned?
Are there obstacles that seem to be keeping my child from making progress? What can the school do to help my child overcome these problems? What can I do?
What learning strategies work well for my child? Are there school programs that could help my child be more successful?
What are my child's strengths? Weaknesses? How can we work together to build on strengths and overcome weaknesses?
What can I do over the summer to help my child get ready for next year?
