Don't Stop Being a 'Study Buddy'

During the pandemic, parents and caregivers everywhere became their children's study buddies—providing critical support and help as their children learned.

Conditions may be back to normal this year, but being a study buddy when your child does schoolwork at home is still an important way to support learning.

Here are some effective ways to be a study buddy:

• Help your child get and organize information for a report or quiz.
• Show your child how to break larger tasks down into smaller steps.
• Help your child look for key ideas in books.
• Make up questions that might be on a test, and have your child practice answering.
• Use flash cards to help your child practice spelling or math, or memorize history or other facts.
• Listen as your child reads aloud.
• Make sure your child understands assignment instructions.
• Provide encouragement—by making positive comments about your child’s effort and small improvements.
