Help Your Child Face Challenges With Confidence
Competence usually leads to confidence. To give your child the confidence to face challenges in school and in life:
- Teach organizational skills. Kids who are always looking for a lost item have trouble feeling good about themselves.
- Provide lots of opportunities to express opinions. Listen to your child's thoughts and take them seriously.
- Talk openly with your child about your job and how you handle your workload. Explain that your job, like your child’s schoolwork, is something you take seriously. Your attitude will help inspire similar behavior from your student.
- Let your child see you continue to learn. Whether you are trying out a new recipe or computer skill, or mastering a new appliance or tool, demonstrate that working through learning challenges is satisfying and worthwhile.
