The winter holiday season has arrived. Because many holidays involve gifts, some children spend this time focused entirely on their own needs and wants. To help your child understand the importance of considering others, think about doing some community service as a family.
Look for ways your family can help in your community. Think about people in your neighborhood. Is there an elderly person who could use help around the house? Perhaps your child could volunteer. Or maybe you could volunteer together for a project to improve a public area.
By discovering needs and helping to fill them, children gain a better understanding of their own value to the community.
