Use Family Photos to Encourage Talking and Writing

Use Family Photos to Encourage Talking and Writing

Here’s a great activity to store away for one of those days during summer vacation when your kids tell you “There’s nothing to do.” Get out your family photos (in print or digital form) and use them as a way to encourage conversation and writing.

As you look at each picture together, talk about the memories it brings back. Ask your children to tell you what they remember about each picture.

Next, have each child choose a few photos to send to a friend or relative. Ask them to write a letter to go with the photos. Older children can write a short description of the picture. Younger kids can dictate the description to you.
