Preserve Special Family Memories
Make the special days your family celebrates this holiday season even more special by keeping a family journal of the events. To create a lasting keepsake, sit down together and:
- Describe the preparations you made.
- Note what everyone talked about, what went well and what didn't.
- Emphasize emotions—how family members felt about and through it all.
- Write in the "third person," using the names of family members. ("Lana squealed when Ethan ... .")
The stories you create—and the memories you capture—will strengthen your child's sense of family.
Don't be surprised if your child asks you often to read the stories at bedtime ... and other times as well. Children, like adults, love reading about themselves!
