Self-Care Helps Keep Life in Balance
Parents and caregivers have a lot of demands to juggle. Jobs, commitments and their families compete for their time. It can be stressful trying to cover all the bases.
Here are some strategies that can make your life a little easier:
- Make time for self-care. Your mental and physical health are important to your family. Set aside 15 minutes to read a book or relax with a hobby. Make an effort to get enough sleep. When you take care of yourself, you’ll be better able to take care of everything else.
- Analyze the amount of stress you are under. List some ways you can try to preserve your energy, such as prioritizing and saying no to some requests.
- Set aside time for exercise. A 20-minute walk is a great start. Exercise will give you more energy in the long run.
- Keep in touch with friends who can give you a listening ear.
- Talk with your children about how they are doing. If they feel you are demanding too much, discuss ways to manage responsibilities.
