Teach COPS for Proofreading

Your child has completed a writing assignment. Is it ready to turn in? Teach your elementary schooler to double-check work by using the COPS checklist:

• C is for Capitalization. Does every sentence start with a capital letter? Are proper names capitalized?
• O is for Overall appearance. Is the writing neat? Is it easy to read?
• P is for Punctuation. Is the punctuation correct?
• S is for Spelling. Has your child looked up all the tricky words? Encourage your child to check carefully one last time.
