Play ‘I Spy a Sentence’

Play ‘I Spy a Sentence’

Here’s a word game that helps kids learn to be careful observers of the world around them while it gives them practice writing. Best of all, it’s fun!

When your family is on a walk or on the road, set a time limit—say, five minutes. Then during that time, challenge family members to write down words for the things they see around them. These could include the names of objects—building, house, tree. They can also include words that describe the things they see—like tall for the tree or gray for the sky.

When the time is up, take turns turning your word collections into creative sentences. If your children are younger, you can do this together. Or, you could ask everyone to share their sentences and vote on the best one.
