Make Your Own Audiobooks

Listening to audiobooks while reading along in print can boost children’s reading fluency. For some children, it makes reading easier and more fun. You can add to the enjoyment by making your own matching books and recordings with your child.

Simply record yourself as you read a story to your child. Slow down and pronounce the words carefully. Act out the characters’ voices.

Ask your child to ring a bell at the end of each page. Then, when your elementary schooler listens and reads along later, the bell will signal that it's time to turn the page. Your child will have a wonderful reading experience with you to replay again and again.
